Anton Rubinstein: cello concerto n.2

Anton Rubinstein - cello concerto n.2

Anton Rubinstein, founder of the St.Petersburg conservatory, is mostly remembered as a pianist and educator (Tchaikowsky was one of his students). He was, also, a prolific composer: the cello concerto n.2 was written in the summer of 1874, while taking a break from his fourth symphony and his fifth piano concerto.

This recording features Werner Thomas at the cello, with the Bamberger Symphoniker led by Yuri Ahronovic.
